My parents have always marched to their own drummer. It’s probably one of my favorite aspects of who they are as people. They aren’t afraid to just do their own thing.
While other families were having brunch and giving bouquets of flowers, my family again blazed their own trail. For Mother’s Day this year, my dad gave me a 7lb can of chocolate pudding.

7lbs… of pudding.
He said he tried to get me a can of vanilla too but they were all out. I love my family.

One of the best things about Maine is that we get to see so many animals throughout the day. From cute little chippies, to crafty red squirrels, to slithering snakes there is always something scurrying around in Gram’s yard.

At Christmas time I often spend the quiet moments reflecting on the year, reflecting on past Christmas’ and some of their uniquely special moments.
I’ve been thinking about my Gramma this Christmas. As a small child, my Gramma lived just a hop, skip and a jump away so I have many memories of being at her house, playing in her woods, eating her freshly baked apple pie and bread. I have many memories of just being around Gramma in a very natural, everyday sort of way.

Me & My Gramma - Around 1977-78
Married at 15 and the mother of 5 she spent her life giving care to her family; 3 generations of people – her own children, her children’s children and even her grandchildren’s children. She fed them, laughed with them and sent them out into the world to be something. Is anything in this world as enduring as a mother’s love?
When I was about 17, my Gramma gave me 3 silver dollars taped into a Christmas card. I don’t know why but it almost breaks my heart to think of it now. Someone who has nothing frivolous to give had to give something. She had to give something when giving nothing would have been just fine. I guess it can be said that my Gramma gave everything she had.
On Sunday morning during the long Columbus Day weekend, we spent the morning strolling around the Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. We walked amongst the giraffes, the bears and camels. Chloe spent some time swinging on the swing. We watched the few remaining butterflies flutter around on the daisies. It was a gorgeous October morning.

Back in October we spent a long weekend in Newport, Rhode Island with Gram. While waiting for the topiary garden to open, we spent some time walking along the beach. It was a gorgeous fall morning, perfect for skipping rocks into the water.

Yesterday on my way home from work I got a chipper call from mom who was said she was sitting in my driveway. I let her know I was only 10 minutes away and would be there soon. When I pulled up mom and dad were on the bench outside, all grins, sitting next to their beautiful new Mustang SVT convertible.
Now they’ll be able to get to Costo in a hurry!
I LOVE that they follow their whims. My parents are awesome.

On Tuesday morning when we got up, the clouds hung low in the sky and the cold rain was steadily falling. The temperature never broke 65 and there would be no sunshine for the day. Since she would be in the water getting wet anyway, Chloe decided that it would be a great day to go tubing. With the lake being warmer than the air, we figured What the heck, go for it kid…
Chloe had the lake all to herself.

On February 19, Chloe ventured out into the world on skis for the first time at Titcomb Mountain in Maine.
