One of the best things about Maine is that we get to see so many animals throughout the day. From cute little chippies, to crafty red squirrels, to slithering snakes there is always something scurrying around in Gram’s yard.

While we were in Maine visiting Gram in July, we found a beautiful Polyphemus moth laying in the moss on the ground. It’s wings spanned about 4 inches and it was very docile. It did not attempt to fly away while we got a closer look at it. As we went on about our business of playing on the swing, the moth took it’s leave heading back out into the world.

Pitstop At The Desert of Maine

On our way home from visiting with Gram in Maine this summer, we made a pit stop to visit the Desert of Maine.  The tour consisted of a ride around a sandy yard in a trailer. At the tail end of the tour, kids were allowed to go gem mining in one of the dunes. Chloe in her sarcastic delivery said, “What a gyp,” when we were told parents could have 1 minuscule gem if they found one and children could have 3.

Now, my love for roadside attractions and kitschy things is well documented but – out of 4 stars, I would have to give the Desert of Maine about a 1.5. It was pretty… dry. (Thank you! Thank you! I’ll be appearing all week!)

On Tuesday morning when we got up, the clouds hung low in the sky and the cold rain was steadily falling. The temperature never broke 65 and there would be no sunshine for the day. Since she would be in the water getting wet anyway, Chloe decided that it would be a great day to go tubing. With the lake being warmer than the air, we figured What the heck, go for it kid

Ready for take off!

On February 19, Chloe ventured out into the world on skis for the first time at Titcomb Mountain in Maine.

A long day of learning to ski makes little people sleepy in the car on the way home.
