One of the best things about Maine is that we get to see so many animals throughout the day. From cute little chippies, to crafty red squirrels, to slithering snakes there is always something scurrying around in Gram’s yard.

Santa brought Chloe an ‘I Dig Dinosaurs T-Rex Skeleton’ excavation kit for Christmas this year. Armed with her little silver hammer, chisel and a brush Chloe donned her safety glasses and began digging through the sandy block to uncover the dinosaur bones.
I got an old box top out to try to keep the sand from flying everywhere. But, in the course of her digging the little stones did manage to fly about. This is definitely not an activity to be done in a carpeted area
Chloe carefully chiseled and brushed and the bones began to show themselves. She could hardly wait to get them out and assemble her T-Rex.

This morning when I woke up I was surprised to see that more snow had fallen. The trees in our yard were wearing blankets of fluff. The world was quiet and peaceful.

Chloe was all ready to head out for her party at the aquarium tonight. Rather than dressing up in frills and sparkles, Chloe opted to of course be Chloe. A metallic pink leather jacket, mismatched socks and leather-like leggings were in order. I hope she continues to march to her own drummer throughout her life.

Early this morning the snow began to fall, gently covering our neighborhood in a layer of powdered sugar. Kenny and Chloe were monkeying around outside. Each time Chloe would turn her back Kenny would pelt her with a shovel full of snow. She loved every minute of it

We rather serendipitously stumbled across this gem of Americana in Pennsylvania last night. This now stationary big bucket was once one of the rotating buckets used on KFC signage. Love it.

On Tuesday we packed our toothbrushes, a hand of bananas and hopped into the car and pointed it west. We didn’t have much of a plan other than, “let’s go somewhere.” So, we did. We stopped off to visit The Coffee Pot in Bedford, Pa. I have long wanted to visit it. Since we were nowhere near the neighborhood it seemed like the perfect place to stop.

On Sunday afternoon we walked along the beach watching a kiteboarder skimming across the cold December water.

This morning when we woke up, the two feet of snow we’d received last weekend had melted away. Heavy rain and temperatures near 50 degrees sent the white stuff packing. With bright blue skies and a now clear driveway, it was the perfect opportunity for Chloe to try the Heelys that Santa brought for Christmas. They weren’t as easy as they looked the first time!
